This makes me so incredibly happy:
Back in August I suggested that if Facebook allowed you to place your friends in specific groups (e.g. professional, social, family, etc) and assign custom privacy settings, LinkedIn would be doomed. While Facebook is going to have to work toward putting an end to LinkedIn, they have announced their intention to launch this new feature. Facebook states:
We’ll let you organize that long ...

Just how much is Facebook worth?
Depends on what day you ask. Somewhere between $10-60 billion? Who knows!?
Only FSJ can accurately capture this level of absurdity:
No guff. This baby-faced kid has balls like a friggin gorilla. Few days ago he was turning away Microsoft, saying their offer to buy a piece of Facebook at a $10 billion valuation wasn't high enough because his profitless company was worth $15 billion. ...

The headline in the New York Times article almost says it all.
Organizations with some of the most important messages are beginning to understand what it means to engage their audience. No more throwing up a 30-second spot and calling it a day. They need to be where the audiences are.
A nonprofit organization that produces some of the most familiar public service advertising is joining its profit-making counterparts in ...

I love the Sony Bravia spots. Always creative and unforgettable.
They recently released a teaser video for their upcoming commercial, which looks just as promising as their earlier work:

Great post this morning from Test in response to the Bear Stearns' report that included definitions of the four kinds of social networks:
Leisure-Orientated Sites: entertainment sites, open to all users - eg Myspace, Facebook, Friendster, Bebo, Orkut, Windows Live Space, Hi5
Professional Networking Sites: Sites focusing on business networking - Linkedin, itLinkz
Media Sharing Sites: sites focusing on the distribution and consumption of user-generated multi-media content, such as videos and ...

Sometimes I need to back away from the multiple-tabbed browsing.
Close down all the open programs on my computer.
Not even think about dealing with formatting and unnecessary buttons in Word.
And simply write down my thoughts in Notepad.

The new social networking platform of tomorrow will be the internet itself.
Both Yahoo and Google are working on strategies to overlay their own social networks over their web services - email, IM, photosharing and others.
Check out this Wired article about Yahoo's efforts:
Yahoo's ambition isn't to make a stand-alone social network to compete with the Facebooks and MySpaces of the online world. Photo management, blogging and private communication are ...

I want to own my data.
I want to privately and securely manage my identity online.
I want to have control of my contacts online.
And Six Apart thinks I should be able to:
Your lists of friends and connections on the social websites that you use, sometimes called your social graph, belongs to you. No one company should own who you know and how you know them. OpenID, which was born ...

On the heals of last night's Refresh-DC meetup about widgets, International Herald Tribune posted this article about newspaper's adoption of delivering content through widgets.
Traditionally, newspapers and other Web sites have first and foremost tried to drive traffic back the main destination so they can sell more advertising, the way a TV network or magazine or newspaper might do.
But as people spend more time within networks of their own ...
