Leveraging social media to make great ideas happen

What I Do

I love the holidays. Thanksgiving to Christmas are some of the best days of the year. And with them come the onslaught of holiday parties and networking events.

And despite the insane schedule at work preparing to launch the new site, I’ve still found a few minutes in the evening to attend some of the latest DC technology and social media geekery get-togethers. (Photos soon to come!)

I’ve amassed quite the impressive stack of new business cards of intelligent and beautiful people I hope to get to know better. But looking back at most every conversation with each one of them - nearly all began with the simple question of, “what do you do?”

Sure, simply stating my title and company gets the point across. But it never captures the passion behind the work. So I’m working on revising how I talk about doing the work I love. At the moment it’s simply this:

I create social media for social good.

Let that sink in for a moment.

And then I came across another person’s one-line manifesto for their work:

Identify stories and experiences that will  help connect brands with the people that will increase the brand’s value.

I like how they get storytelling. This could be a good point B in my conversations about what I do and where I want to take it.

Like it? Nonplussed? Mildly amused? Let me know. I’ve got lots of holiday parties to go.
