Mobile Video - Bring on the Adventure

Video is on the rise:

Online traffic to YouTube and other online video sites doubled last year compared with 2006, as almost half of adult online users say they visited such sites, according to a research report released Wednesday.

According to a national phone survey done by the Pew Internet & American Life Project, 48% of more than 1,300 Internet users surveyed between October and December 2007 said they visited a video-sharing site like YouTube during 2007. A survey in December 2006 found that 33% of Internet users said they had visited such sites last year, Pew said.

But while video is on the rise, it has a long way to go before it overtakes the ubiquitous text message as the tie that binds this digital world together. There are hardly any entry barriers, while even the most basic mobile phone video production is still spotty. But new services like Qik, Utterz and Seesmic are making steps in the right direction to make mobile video available with just a few taps on the mobile phone.

It’s not there yet, but once mobile video becomes beautifully-simple to create, share and discover, it’s going to spread like wildfire.  And when that happens, we’ll have a whole new world to explore and shape. Bring on the adventure.

PS - While we’re on the topic of video, if you haven’t checked out Big Think yet, you really should. If YouTube was your high school class, Big Think was that beautiful valedictorian.
